2022 Affiliated Society Contest 432 MHz

Well, the climate may be changing but seemingly the weather on the first Sunday in February can be relied upon to produce high winds and driving rain, causing antenna masts to be lowered and general grumpiness in the soapbox comments. Poor propagation and troublesome QSB once again added to the challenges faced by participants.

The number of entries (102) was well down on last year's all-time record but comparable to the average for the previous 9 years (105).  36 Affiliated Societies submitted entries from 45 teams.

Two DX (over 750 km) contacts were achieved: QSOs between F4FET/P and F5ICN & GD8EXI and F6DKW.

In the club competition, the General Section saw a win for the Harwell ARS `A' team with last year's winners, the Weekend CG `A' team, relegated to second place.  Harwell's `B' team managed a creditable 5th place.

In the Local Section, Camb-Hams `A' were once again convincing winners and retain the G0ODQ trophy as the highest scoring Affiliated Society.  Chesham and District ARS `A' were runners up. Chesham, however, can console themselves that their `B' team (in 7th place) scored twice as many points as their Camb-Hams counterparts (in 15th).

As usual, the seemingly invincible Richard, GD8EXI triumphed in the Single Operator Fixed category with Keith, G40DA taking the runner up spot.  The leading Intermediate licensee was once again James, 2E0OUT and, Ben M7TXR was the highest placed Foundation Licence holder. Tony, G8DMU was the highest scoring fixed station running 25W or less to a single antenna.

in the Open Section, Gil, F4FET/P ran out the winner and highest placed overseas station with Paul, G4RRA as the Runner up.  Steven,2W0PUT/P was the highest placed Intermediate Licensee.

Congratulations to all certificate winners.
